The Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður will be opened for the fifteenth time on Friday evening, 1st December at 6 p.m. with a varied programme on Thorsplan as the lights are switched on on the Christmas tree. This year, it is none other than Laddi, Þórhallur Sigurðsson, who will share his memories of Christmas as a young boy in Hafnarfjörður, light the Christmas tree and count down to a few Christmas songs.
The Christmas Village will be open every Saturday and Sunday during Advent from 12 pm to 5 pm, and until 10 pm on Christmas Eve. Please note that Strandgatan, from Lækjargata to Reykjavíkurvegur, is closed while the Christmas Village is open.
Visitors to this year's Christmas Village can walk between twenty beautifully decorated Christmas houses, which have become a nationally renowned marketplace for a variety of gifts, handicrafts and design, ideal for putting in a Christmas stocking, along with delicious food and products to take home for the festive table.
The Hafnarfjörður Museum of Local History is hosting a photography exhibition in the Christmas village, featuring 40 photographs that offer a delightful insight into life in the town from the mid-20th century. The photos were taken all over the town by various photographers, but most of them have the common theme of being taken in winter.
We look forward to enjoying the Advent season with you!
