Cleaning of industrial areas 18-28 September

News

We urge the management and staff of businesses in Hafnarfjörður to get to work cleaning up their premises, and are offering skips for timber and metal at three locations in the town.

We all care about our environment and that the appearance of Hafnarfjörður is good. This September, we are particularly calling on the management and staff of businesses in Hafnarfjörður to get to work cleaning up their premises, and we are offering skips for wood and metal in three locations around the town.

Let's make use of the service – containers for timber and iron at Bæjarhraun, the boathouses at Lónsbraut and at Gjáhella – see the map for locations here.

Please note that the containers are only for timber and iron – other waste streams go via a different route, e.g. to Sorpu recycling centre at Breiðhellu

At its meeting on 25 August 2020, the Planning and Building Committee approved to encourage company representatives and landowners in the town's industrial areas to take an active part in an environmental campaign taking place from 18th to 28th September. The clean-up campaign in industrial and business areas is a challenge to landowners and business operators to clear away anything that could cause pollution, unsightliness or a nuisance to the environment.

It is in everyone's interest for the environment to be attractive; we should all look after the town and nature, and the industrial and business areas are no exception. Businesses are therefore particularly encouraged to make use of this municipal service, as a company's appearance affects customer experience and business.

Classification in companies and institutions

The importance of categorisation in businesses and organisations will be discussed at a course for member companies of the Marketing Bureau of Hafnarfjörður on Tuesday, 6 October, from 9:00 to 10:30 in the Íshestar hall.

Líf Lárusdóttir, Marketing Manager at Terra, discusses the importance of companies sorting their waste and offers advice on how to implement sorting so that all company staff are playing by the same rules. We will go over what happens to the materials that are sorted and what to bear in mind to ensure sorting is as effective as possible. Líf will bring a kit containing the most common types of packaging and the main points of confusion when it comes to sorting. Terra will also be offering company tours on 14 October.

Further information about the events and registration details are available at Website of the Marketing Bureau of Hafnarfjörður, msh.is.
