Coffee pod necklace for sale
At Öldutúnsskóli, a creative recycling project is underway called the Coffee Necklace Project.
This is a collaboration project between Öldutúnsskóli, Vatnsendaskóli, Hagaborg and Gloria Fuertes, a school in Spain.
The project's keywords are
Friendship – Creation – Reuse
The aim is for students to develop greater empathy and joy in creating beautiful handicrafts, whilst also giving back. They will gain an understanding of the importance of recycling and learn about different materials. In their specialist lessons, students make necklaces from Nespresso coffee capsules, fabric scraps, beads, ribbons and more. We sell the necklaces, and each one costs 1,000 kr.
All proceeds go directly to Gloria Fuertes, which is in Alicante, Spain. Gloria Fuertes is a nursery and primary school, and most of the pupils belong to very poor families. This school was visited during a school trip with „Leikur að Læra“ in the spring of 2015. There, we saw similar necklaces that the pupils were making to raise money for the most vulnerable. This great compassion we experienced there led us to decide to do the same and support this school, together with the pupils of Öldutúnsskóli. The project is run in collaboration with „Leikur að læra“. The necklaces are sold at Öldutúnsskóli and in the shop Kailash, at 11 Strandgata.
