Come for a swim in Advent and over the Christmas period.

News

The opening hours of the swimming pools in Hafnarfjörður will be extended over the Christmas period, which will hopefully increase the chances for as many people as possible to enjoy them. We would particularly like to point out that the actual number of visitors to the pools can be monitored at any time on the town's website.

Everyone should get to the Christmas swim – opening hours extended over the Christmas period!

Christmas swimming is a great opportunity for togetherness, and the swimming pools in Hafnarfjörður are well-suited to meeting the needs of all community groups, as they are all different. There are three swimming pools, and each has its own distinct character and charm. Thus, the Hafnarfjörður Swimming Pool is characterised by its history and tranquil atmosphere, Ásvallalaug by its family-friendly environment and heated indoor pool for younger children, and the Suðurbæjarlaug by its beautiful outdoor area and open-air pool.

Capacity restrictions at the swimming pools

Currently, the swimming pools are permitted to admit up to 501 guests, and this restriction will remain in effect until 12 January 2021 unless otherwise announced. Children born in 2005 and later are not included in the guest count. This means that the maximum number in each pool is as follows:

  • Ásvallalaug – 160 guests
  • South Bay Pool – 80 guests
  • Hafnarfjörður Swimming Pool – 32 guests

How many people are swimming now?

Right at the start of Covid-19, when it became clear that the pandemic would affect the council's swimming pool services, it was decided to launch an information page on the number of visitors in each pool to minimise, and ideally prevent, any waiting for a place.  On each swimming pool's page, you can see real-time information about the number of visitors and how many spaces are available.

Real-time information on the number of visitors in each pool is available here.

We are ALL civil defence

Visitors are encouraged to observe the 2-metre rule at all times and maintain the highest standards of hygiene, as cooperation in public health is essential for the swimming pools to remain open.

Merry Christmas and a successful swimming year ahead!
See you at the swimming pool! 🙂
