Construction to begin on new Kaldárselsveg
Emphasis is placed on the safety of pedestrians and cyclists with underpasses and paths, and therefore access to the uplands of Hafnarfjörður will improve.
At the meeting of the Environment and Operations Committee on 18 April, authorisation was granted to tender for the partial resurfacing of Kaldárselsvegur. The project includes the reconstruction of the road, the connections with Brekkuáss and Klettahlíð, footpaths and noise barriers. In addition, two new roundabouts will be constructed. The project will begin this spring and continue into the winter, and is in accordance with the approved detailed plan.
The construction period is scheduled to begin on 1 June, with the asphalting due to be completed by 30 September and the works finished by the end of the year. Residents of Ásland 3 will experience temporary inconvenience during the construction period due to diversions, but every effort will be made to keep this to a minimum.
The emphasis is on the safety of pedestrians and cyclists with underpasses and paths, and therefore access to the hinterland of Hafnarfjörður will improve. Once the reconstruction of Kaldárselveg to Hlíðarþúfur is complete, it will be possible to walk or cycle on a safe path from the town centre to the turning at Hvaleyrarvatn, and it is planned to continue this work all the way up to Kaldársel.
