Creative Summer Jobs – Víf
Víf Ásdísar Svansbur is spending this year's Creative Summer Jobs scheme creating music and poetry, and taking photographs inspired by the nature of Hafnarfjörður.
„I'm a 19-year-old, about to turn 20, gender-fluid, from Hafnarfjörður, a schoolkid with a great interest in art, and I've been playing in a few bands over the past year, Ókindarhjarta, who released an EP in April, and Samosa, who played their first gig the other day.„
Started writing their own music two years ago
„I've otherwise been playing the guitar along with other instruments for over seven years, but I started writing my own music from home about two years ago with “ instrumental “recordings. I draw a lot of inspiration from Sigur Rós, Neutral Milk Hotel, Sonic Youth, Slowdive, R.E.M, Belle & Sebastian, Simon & Garfunkel and Nick Drake.“
Inspiration from the Hafnarfjörður Highlands
This summer I will focus on my music, but I will also be writing poetry and taking photographs in Hafnarfjörður. I draw inspiration from cycling or walking around the area, particularly around Hvaleyravatn and Helgafell.“
Fun job
„I applied for creative summer jobs, as I saw the opportunity as a stepping stone to releasing my own material later on. The job is very varied and fun, and I'm really enjoying it. With this project this summer, I've been specifically trying to develop my songwriting with songs that follow a more traditional structure.“

About Creative Summer Jobs 2023
In the summer of 2021, the City of Hafnarfjörður, in collaboration with the town's youth centre, Hamarinn, decided to revive the “Creative Summer Jobs” project, which had been run in the summer of 2017. Individuals and groups aged 18-23 were also invited to submit ideas for creative projects in Hafnarfjörður. Selected groups were given the opportunity to work on various creative projects in different artistic fields that would also liven up the town's social life, delighting tourists and residents in one way or another. The staff of Creative Summer Jobs, run as part of the Hafnarfjörður Summer School, are tasked with bringing the town to life, making it more fun, beautiful and diverse with artistic and creative events. The projects are varied and appeal to different age groups and interests. Klara Ósk Elíasdóttir is the project manager for Creative Summer Jobs.
This year, there are nine diverse groups and individuals working as part of the creative summer jobs scheme, and they will be featured weekly over the summer.
