Work on the development of Hafnarfjörður's education strategy has been underway for the past few terms, although the work was formally launched in autumn 2019. The pandemic has had an impact on the progress and pace of the work, as education leaders, who are representatives of all schools, and others have had a lot on their plates. With the sun shining and no restrictions, the education leaders have started meeting regularly in person again, and work on the education strategy has gained fresh momentum. The education leaders have taken great pride and care in weighing professional perspectives in the balance of education policy, and strong, positive collaboration with the school community has added value and substance to it.

Development, well-being and academic success are prioritised.

The education policy will serve as a roadmap towards the goals set in collaboration with students, teachers, staff and parents, and is based on the philosophy of a learning community. The school community, students, teachers and parents have been given the opportunity to participate through online surveys, so that their voices and perspectives are heard and reflected in the education policy. Submissions of ideas are still open via Better Hafnarfjörður – the town's consultation portal and it is possible to submit suggestions and viewpoints.

The new education strategy will clarify the focus and link it to the objectives being pursued in the school's work, where development, well-being and academic success are prioritised. The work on the education strategy is expected to be completed in spring 2022.
