Cultural and Health Walks 2020
This summer, guided town walks are offered every Thursday at 8 p.m. Most walks last about an hour, participation is free and everyone is welcome.
This summer, guided town walks are offered every Thursday at 8 p.m. Most walks last for about an hour, participation is free and everyone is welcome. The walks are a collaboration between Hafnarfjörður Library, the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum, Hafnarborg and Healthy Town of Hafnarfjörður.
4th June A view of Hafnarfjörður
Ágústa Kristófersdóttir, director of Hafnarborg, will lead a walk where the artists' perspectives on the old town will be explored. The walk starts at Hafnarborg.
11 June – Stórhöfði
Gróa Másdóttir of Green Journeys leads a walk from Hvaleyrarvatn to Stórhöfði. The walk starts from the car park at the western end of Hvaleyrarvatn, near Völlum.
18th June – Helgafell for beginners
Valgerður Hróðmarsdóttir leads a walk to the top of Helgafell
for beginners as well as more advanced. The walk starts from the car park on Kaldárselsveg.
25th June – Kaldársel, ruins and history
Ómar Smári Ármannsson leads a walk around the Kaldársel area, presenting the history and examining archaeological remains. The walk starts from the car park on Kaldárselvegur.
2nd July – Family walk in Valaból at 6 p.m.
Kolbrún Kristínardóttir, a paediatric physiotherapist, will lead a walk to Valaból. Participants are encouraged to bring a homemade, healthy snack, as we will stop for a break halfway through the walk. The walk will start from the car park on Kaldárselsveg.
9 July – Outdoor art in Víðistaðatún
A guided walk around Víðistaðatún to view the outdoor artworks with guide and art historian Eiríkur Hallgrímsson. The walk will start from the car park at Víðistaðakirkja.
16th July – Short walk at 5 p.m.
A children's walk for the youngest group around the South Town, with stories, games and fun guests. The walk ends at Óla Run Tún. Starting from Jófríðarstaðir.
23 July – Arnarfell at 6 p.m.
Jónatan Garðarsson leads a guided walk up Arnarfell in Krýsuvík. The walk starts from the car park at Krýsuvík Church.
30 July – The sports story in the city centre
Björn Pétursson, the town's heritage officer, walks between sites in the centre of Hafnarfjörður connected to the history of sport. The walk starts from the Packhouse.
6th August – Ástjörn
Gunnar Svavarsson leads an educational walk around Ástjörn with many stops and interesting chat. The walk starts from the Stekkjarási nursery school.
13th August – Húsfell for everyone
Einar Skúlason, a walk leader and guide, leads a light and invigorating walk up Húsfell in the Helgafell area, and along the way introduces both the geology and the stories of the region. The walk starts from the car park on Kaldárselsveg.
20 August – Ljósaklif
A walk around the area of Ljósaklif, following in the footsteps of the artist Einar Már Guðvarðarson. Starting from the car park on Herjólfsgata.
27 August – Occupation of Hafnarfjörður
Friðþór Eydal leads a walk along the Strandstígur and introduces the history of the occupation. The walk starts from the music school.
