Management and operation of the Town Cinema

Pétur Ó. Stephensen and Páll Eyjólfsson today signed an agreement, on behalf of Bæjarbíó Ltd., with the City of Hafnarfjörður for the management and operation of Bæjarbíó for the next three years. The partners believe there is great potential in building a strong and vibrant cultural programme at Bæjarbíó in the heart of Hafnarfjörður. The activities of Pétur and Páll at Bæjarbíó will formally begin on Saturday, 10 December, with an Advent concert by KK and Ellen.

A call was made for an enthusiastic operator for Bæjarbíó, with the aim of developing a vibrant cultural centre that attracts a broad range of visitors to the heart of Hafnarfjörður and making the best use of Bæjarbíó. to promote a diverse cultural programme and uphold the cinema's special national standing. The contribution from the City of Hafnarfjörður is in the form of a waiver of rent and electricity and heating costs. A three-year agreement was made, with the option to extend for a further three years. In consultation with the operator, it is also planned that in 2017 the City of Hafnarfjörður will purchase basic audio-visual equipment and a screen for Bæjarbíó.
