The aim of Music School Day is to raise awareness of the diverse and vibrant activities of the country's music schools. At the Autumn Conference of the Association of Music School Principals in 2019, it was agreed that the Day of Music Schools would be on 7 February, in honour of the birthday of Gylfi Þ. Gíslason, who was Minister of Education from 1956 – 1971. From the memorandum accompanying the proposal: Gylfi Þ. Gíslason was a great influence on music education and championed reforms in the field. By having the Day of Music Schools fall on Gylfi Þ.'s birthday. Gíslason's, we honour his memory and pay due respect to his work for the benefit of music schools. Events include concerts, open days, and presentations, as well as students visiting carefully selected venues and performing for others with beautiful music.

Happy day, students, staff, parents and all music lovers!
