Grant from the Helga and Bjarni Memorial Fund
On 8th March, grants were awarded from the Helga and Bjarni Memorial Fund at a ceremony in Hásölum, the parish hall of Hafnarfjörður Church, on Bjarni Snæbjörnsson's birthday. Magnús Snæbjörnsson presented the grants on behalf of the board of the Memorial Fund, which he chairs alongside the Reverend Jón Helgi Þórarinsson and Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir.

This time, four projects received grants;
- Inga Björk Ingadóttir received a 1 million króna grant to prepare for the establishment of a department for students with special needs at the Hafnarfjörður Music School.
- The Red Cross Hafnarfjörður branch receives 600,000 krónur for homework help for pupils in years 1-10, and also for a project concerning unaccompanied children.
- The sports club Fjörður receives 600,000 kr. for its excellent work for children with disabilities.
- The Bereavement Centre received a 600,000 króna grant for the 'Children in Grief' courses.
The Helga and Bjarni Memorial Fund has been operating since 2004 and The role of the fund is to support and empower individuals, businesses or public bodies in Hafnarfjörður that provide services and assistance to children who are facing any kind of difficulties. Since the fund was established, 35 projects have received grants. It is the hope of Helga and Bjarni's family that the grants will further enhance the good and rewarding work of the grant recipients for the youth of Hafnarfjörður. It was decided to distribute all the fund's money and it has since been dissolved.
