Child Protection in Hafnarfjörður is looking for two families who are prepared to take in children who need to be accommodated away from home for a short period.
The role of foster parents is to provide a reception for children, including in emergency situations to ensure their safety, to resolve their difficulties or to investigate their circumstances.
When a child is at home, the emphasis is on them attending their home school, pursuing their hobbies and keeping up friendships. Therefore, it is an advantage if the families live in Hafnarfjörður.
When assessing the homes, information is obtained from the criminal record, a certificate from the health authority, a fire safety report, and a report from the child protection committee. In accordance with section 84 of the Child Protection Act, child protection committees must enter into contracts with foster carers in private homes.
It is important that one family member is dedicated solely to this role, and that there is an extra room in the property that is always ready for the child/children.
The role is varied and rewarding, and involves working in close collaboration with child protection staff. Experience of working with children that is relevant to the role is highly valued.
The application deadline is 5 April 2020.
