About 300 children were fishing at the harbour here in Hafnarfjörður today. Yes, it was great fun and they were focused the whole time.

The children of Hafnarfjörður are fishing!

Around 300 children took part in the annual angling competition at Flensburg Harbour today. The weather was kind to the participants and the fishing was excellent.

The angling competition has been a fixture of the summer programme in Hafnarfjörður for over 30 years. The harbour continues to attract young anglers each year.

In total, around 50 fish of various species were caught, including cod, plaice, dab, porgy, starfish, whelk and crab.

  • The twins Arnar and Orri Ernissynir won the title Powerful Year after having caught a total of 26 fish.
  • Viktor Logi Stefánsson and Marvin Þór Ívarsson from the after-school club Hraunsel caught the wonder fish of the year, a starfish that attracted well-deserved attention among the competitors.
  • The biggest fish of the day Huginn Þór Sigurpálsson caught a magnificent ling, which earned him recognition for his achievement.

The angling competition has long been one of the town's most enjoyable summer traditions, where children get the chance to enjoy the outdoors, socialise, and have fun fishing at the harbour in the heart of Hafnarfjörður.
