Fishing in Flensburg Harbour
Around five hundred children and staff from Hafnarfjörður, aged 6-12, took part in the annual dorgveiðikeppni at Flensborg Harbour today. In total, about 40 fish were caught. Some were immediately released, but were recorded.
There was much more fishing this year than in recent years, as the weather was perfect for fishing, overcast. The competition has been held for over 30 years at the harbour in Hafnarfjörður.
Three received a cup and a fishing rod
The biggest fish caught today was a 351g Arctic char. Óliver Leó caught the fish and received a fishing rod and a trophy for it. Reynir Máni and Nikulás Högni also received them, as they were the winners of this year's Flensborg Harbour fishing competition. They each caught 6 fish.
Pike, sea bream and plaice were among the species caught this year. No prize was awarded for the odd fish, as no single one stood out this year.
Yes, it was a wonderful day. The children shrieked with delight, and we people of Hafnarfjörður know just how much fun that is. The tradition has become so old that it's likely now that it's the second generation of hunters on the go. Go Hafnarfjörður.

Niclas and Oliver.

Trying with his cup.
