Engidalsskóli and Hlíðarendi top the Life Run

News

The staff of the Hlíðarendi nursery school in Setberg received a gold disc for the most active days in the Lífshlaupið, and Engidalsskóli was the top-performing of Hafnarfjörður's primary schools. A fantastic achievement, which was celebrated yesterday.

The Sports Elf shook things up at Engidalsskóli!

There was great celebration when it was announced that Engidalsskóli had performed the best of all the Hafnarfjörður primary schools in the Life Run. A total of 220 pupils from the school's Years 1-7 took part. Notably, all of the school's year groups were active, and the school achieved 5th place nationally in the 90-299 pupil category.

The Sports Elf paid a visit and cheered the pupils on. They jumped with him in the hall to celebrate the achievement, which is particularly noteworthy as this is the first time the school has taken part.

Teachers recorded how much each pupil moved over a two-week period. Headteacher Margrét Halldórsdóttir and the teachers received a bouquet from the mayor. The pupils received the Sporty Elf himself. They moved for a total of 1,153 days, or 123,095 minutes, during this two-week period of the Life Run.

Absolutely fantastic result. Congratulations, everyone.

Bryndís Ævarsdóttir, Kveldúlfur Hasan, Sandra Anulyté, all from Hlíðarendi, and Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, the mayor. The gold plate was awarded to the staff for exercising on most days in the Lífshlaupið.

The staff of Hlíðarendi received a gold disc.

Yes, this was not the only outstanding achievement from the Life Run this time. The staff of Hlíðarendi, the nursery in Setberg, were victorious nationwide among workplaces in their size category. The staff received a gold plate for exercising on most days for a period of three weeks.

Mayor Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir also presented them with flowers. A fantastic achievement, led by the school's PE teacher, Sandra Anulyté. The ambition was high and every activity was recorded. Running, horse riding trips, a skiing trip and long walks made up the total. Great role models. Staff increased their activity during the period; they usually go three times a week but now, during the Life Run, they go every day. 'It's all about the atmosphere,' they said.

Hafnarfjörður staff who took part in the 2024 Life Run moved for a total of 227,805 minutes, or 2,633 days 💪. In total, 206 employees took part in the Life Run in 17 teams.

The Lifeslap is a health and motivational project by the Icelandic Sports and Olympic Association that appeals to all age groups. In the Lifeslap, all Icelanders are encouraged to consider their daily exercise and increase it as much as possible.

A round of applause for the kids! Also for everyone who managed the registration. A special round of applause for the fantastic achievement of the Hlíðarendi staff. Well done!

Lífshlaupið 2024 was launched for the seventeenth time on the 7th of February and lasted for two weeks in the school competition, but three weeks in other categories.

A huge congratulations to everyone on a fantastic achievement!
