In celebration of the International Year of Women, the Hafnarfjörður Library is giving special recognition to Svava Jakobsdóttir and is hosting a birthday party in her honour on 4 October. Sjöfn Asare, a literary scholar and member of the Reading Club, will give a talk about this remarkable and prolific woman. Afterwards, María Thelma and Bergdís Júlía, from Spindrift Theatre, will read some of Svava's short stories.
Following this event, visitors to the museum will be able to enjoy audio material, video recordings and printed material related to Svava, her works and achievements.
As part of the Year of Women, Hafnarfjörður Municipal Library celebrates Svava Jakobsdóttir – a writer, playwright, member of parliament and activist – on her birthday, 4th October. Join us for an insight into the work of this great woman, led by Sjöfn Asare of Lestrarklefinn, and a reading of Svava's short stories by actresses María Thelma and Bergdís Júlía of Spindrift Theatre.
In connection with this celebration, the Library will present a selection of media about and by Svava.
