Saturday, 22nd April at 2 p.m. An artist and curator talk about the exhibition will be offered. Written pictures, after Johann S. Vilhjálmsson, which is currently on display at the museum. Then the artist, together with the curators Jón Proppé and Erling T. V. Klingenberg, guide visitors around the exhibition and shed light on the working process, their artistic vision and the ideology behind the works.

Jóhann works on paper, using various inks and colours, but in recent years the works have increasingly come to resemble pages from beautifully described medieval manuscripts. The works can be said to combine illustrations, for example dragon motifs and columns of text, on a coloured background. On closer inspection, however, we see that what appears to be text is not in any known script, but rather the images are designed for us to read into them something that perhaps cannot be put into words – that we read with our imagination.

Free admission – all are welcome.
