The Hafnarfjörður Chamber Choir, the Bergmál Youth Choir, the Hafnarfjörður Church Youth Choir and the Öldutún School Choir, together with soloists, pianists and percussion ensemble will perform the masterpiece Carmina Burana at a concert in the sports hall at Strandgata in Hafnarfjörður on Sunday, 6th April at 17:00.
Carmina Burana is a collection of poems compiled into an oratorio about the transience of fortune. The poems are from a 13th-century manuscript and are by many poets, all of whom are anonymous, like the authors of the Sagas of the Icelanders. Some of the poems are in Latin, others in German, and it is clear that the authors were sometimes light-hearted, if the content of the poems is anything to go by. The composer Carl Orff (1895-1982) selected and set to music poems from this collection. The work will be performed in an arrangement for 2 pianos, percussion, soloists, a children's choir, and a choir.
Performers in this production are the Hafnarfjörður Chamber Choir, the Bergmál Youth Choir, the Hafnarfjörður Church Youth Choir, The choir of Öldutúnsskóli and the soloists Bryndís Guðjónsdóttir, soprano; Þorsteinn Freyr Sigurðsson, tenor; and Jón Svavar Jósefsson, baritone, together with a piano and percussion ensemble. The conductor is Kári Þormar.
Tickets cost 4,900 krónur. Tickets are available from Tix.is:
