Hafnarfjörður welcomes Christmas with its annual Christmas village, full of joy, delicious treats and fun Christmas wares, a splendour of lights and a world of wonder in Hellisgerði, Hjartasvelli and so much more.
The Christmas village at Thorsplan in Hafnarfjörður will be open every weekend from 17 November; Fridays from 5 pm to 8 pm, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 pm to 6 pm until Christmas, and until 9 pm on Christmas Eve. The Christmas Village is a hive of festive activity, and the beautifully decorated Christmas houses of Hafnarfjörður have long been nationally renowned for a wide variety of exciting gifts, gourmet treats, crafts and design. It's the perfect place to find the ideal Christmas present while enjoying delicious food and drink to warm you from the inside out. Father Christmas visits on Saturdays, and Grýla will be roaming the town on Sundays. Strandgata becomes a pedestrianised street while the Christmas Village is open.
A light weekend schedule
- Thursday – Saturday from 5 pm - 10 pm. Hafnarfjörður's Christmas Heart in the festive marquee behind the Bæjarbíó. Ideal for mums and dads, grandmas and grandpas, and groups of friends to come along and enjoy a bite to eat and a Christmas drink.
- Saturday from 1 pm to 3 pm. In my opinion – Art workshop at Hafnarborg in Icelandic, English and Arabic. All welcome and free entry.
- Saturday from 1 pm to 6 pm. Bird carving in the greenhouse. Rúnar Ástvaldsson from Bird.is will be hand-carving Icelandic birds in wood on Saturday and offering them for sale.
- Sunday from 1 pm to 6 pm. Christmas decorations in the glasshouse. The mother and daughter team at the Burknar Flower Shop, Gyða and Brynhildur, show some examples of beautiful Christmas decorations suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
- Sunday at 4 p.m.. Christmas carol singing with Guðrún Árnýja at Thorsplan.
- Sunday at 6 p.m. It will be lit. The tree of sorrow in Hellisgerði. Meet at the St. Jó Wellbeing Centre in Hafnarfjörður at 5 p.m., then walk from there to Hellisgerði.
- Hafnarborg is open from 12-17 over the weekend.
- The Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum is open from 11 am to 5 pm this weekend.
- Open at Hafnarfjörður Library from 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday.
