The Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum is opening the exhibition 'Köldu ljósin' on Friday, 13th December at 5 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. The Mayor, Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, will open the exhibition with a short speech, and the opening will be held in the underpass at Hörðuvellir.

The opening is to mark the 120th anniversary of the first public electricity supply in Iceland.  In 1904, Jóhannes Reykdal sailed to Norway and bought a 9 kW generator there to electrify his sawmill. Following this, he brought skilled men with him to install electricity in several houses in the town. Many people marvelled at these light bulbs in a cold glass globe, and they were sometimes called the cold lights.

It is best to park at Hörðuvallaleikskóli and walk to the underpass from that side.
