Tuesday, 5 November at 12 We welcome you to the next lunchtime concert at Hafnarborg, but this time it will be Kristín Sveinsdóttir, mezzo-soprano, guest Antonia Hevesi, pianist and artistic director of the concert series. The concert is entitled „Pants Arias and Skirt Songs“, and together Kristín and Antonía will perform compositions by Strauss, Handel and Mozart.

Kristín Sveinsdóttir, a mezzo-soprano, graduated from the Reykjavík School of Singing in the autumn of 2013 under the guidance of Harpa Harðardóttir, but in Iceland Kristín has also taken singing lessons from Sigríður Ella Magnúsdóttir. After taking part in a concert tour to support the album by Björk Guðmundsdóttir, Biophilia, Kristín began her studies in classical singing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in 2014. Kristín then took a leave of absence of over a year from her studies in Vienna to sing at the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala opera studio in Milan, where she appeared as a soloist in various concerts and opera productions, including as the Second Lady in The Magic Flute by Mozart under the direction of Adam Fisher, at La Scala's annual Christmas concert under the direction of Franz Welser Möst and in a production of The Rose-bearer by Strauss conducted by Zubin Mehta. Kristín then returned to Vienna after her time in Milan to complete her studies, regularly performing as a soloist in school projects and other events.

Kristín has been based in Iceland since 2020 and is a co-founder of the Chamber Opera. She also works as a pre-school and singing teacher at the Sigursveinn's School of Music, is a member of the Chamber Quartet, and regularly performs as a soloist on various occasions, such as in concerts and opera productions. In the upcoming season, Kristín will sing the role of Cherubino in The Wedding of the Rose in a co-production between the Chamber Opera and the City Theatre, as well as appearing as a soloist in an Opera Gala with Ólafur Kjartan and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in April 2025.

Antonia Hevesi, a pianist, has been the artistic director of the lunchtime concerts at Hafnarborg since their inception, and they have been a regular feature of the museum's programme since 2003. There, Antonía has been joined by many of the country's leading singers, with the aim of the concerts being to give visitors the opportunity to enjoy live music at their leisure. The lunchtime concerts are usually held on the first Tuesday of each month during the winter season.

The concert starts at 12 noon and will last for about half an hour. The venue opens at 11:30 am and the concert is open to all, subject to capacity. Admission is free.
