My inspiration for this exhibition at the Litla Gallerý, entitled „Inntak“, is the Icelandic nature, the weather, the sun, the gale, the grey, the gloom, and the landscape. Living in Grindavík my whole life, and in close proximity to the sea and powerful forces of nature, I experience a spiritual feeling and an intake which I then convey onto the canvas.

Respect for nature and the splendour of colour in all seasons has a great influence on me. Why painting? The painting is very important to me; I have always been fascinated by drawings and colours. Sometimes I wonder, what is a painting? Is it something people want to have in their homes? To enjoy and bring them pleasure? Or is it some medium that people look at and form opinions about?.

The works in the exhibition are oil paintings with an abstract twist, strong and colourful. I also use wax (mixed media) in the paintings, which I melt onto the canvas, giving a raw texture and a certain dimension.

In 1995, I started taking courses in drawing at the Reykjavík School of Visual Arts, and later in drawing, watercolour painting and oil painting at the Kópavogur School of Visual Arts.

In 2020, I studied figurative drawing and oil painting for one year in Barcelona at the Escola Massana, a centre for art and design. I have attended courses abroad, including in Boston, Slovenia, Poland and Spain.

In 2015, I took part in the Slovenian Open Art, an international art symposium with participants from 15 countries, in aid of international child welfare organisations.

In 2021, I took part in a painting workshop in portrait painting with the Russian painter Oleg Zubkov. I have held solo exhibitions and group exhibitions with other artists.
