Saturday, 23 November, 1 pm - 3 pm Hafnarborg offers a multilingual art workshop where Arabic calligraphic symbols will be the inspiration for artistic creation, guided by the artists. Yöru Zein and Ingunnar Fjólu Ingþórsdóttir. The languages of the workshop are Icelandic, English and Arabic.

In the workshop, children and adults will be invited to create beautiful and colourful spheres with Arabic calligraphy. All materials will be provided, such as paint, stencils, paper and pens, which participants will use to create their own hanging artworks to take home.

Yara Zein (b. 1995) is a Lebanese artist based in Iceland. She holds a BA in Fine Art and Architecture from the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts in Beirut and an MFA in Fine Art from Nottingham Trent University, England.

Ingunn Fjóla Ingþórsdóttir (b. 1976) is an Icelandic artist based in Hafnarfjörður. She holds an MA in Fine Art from the Iceland Academy of the Arts, as well as a BA in Art History from Aarhus University. Ingunn Fjóla is also the founder of GETU – a charity that supports refugees and asylum seekers in Hafnarfjörður and the surrounding area.

In My Language is a series of events that aims to increase access to Hafnarborg for people from diverse backgrounds by welcoming visitors in different languages. The event is a collaboration between Hafnarborg and the charity GETU. The series is supported by the Museum Fund.

The workshop is open to all ages, but no knowledge of Arabic calligraphy or experience of art-making is required. The workshop takes place on the ground floor of the museum, and children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. As always, participation in workshops and admission to the museum's exhibitions are free of charge.
