On Pink Day, everyone across the country is encouraged to wear pink – for all of us. Wear the pink ribbon, dress in pink and brighten up the short days with a pink glow so that all women who have been diagnosed with cancer can feel our support and solidarity. This year, special attention is being paid to the importance of loved ones. Hafnarfjörður is bathed in a pink light and glow these days. A pink heart at the Hafnarfjörður Library, a pink town hall, a pink church, a pink music school, a pink Fjörukrá, and in addition, some homeowners have chosen to illuminate the trees in their gardens with pink light. The City of Hafnarfjörður encourages residents, people from Hafnarfjörður, and friends of Hafnarfjörður to take a pink walk in the beautiful autumn weather.

Pink Day will be on Wednesday, 23rd October.

Annual Cancer Awareness Initiative

Pink October is the annual awareness month dedicated to the fight against cancers in women. This year, the Cancer Society is focusing on loved ones under the slogan „You change everything”. The Cancer Society's website says: „We want to thank those who neither expect nor expect to receive thanks, the people who are so important but tend to be forgotten – the carers.“ The page also reports that in Iceland, an average of 971 women are diagnosed with cancer each year. „Fortunately, there are constant advances in diagnosis and treatment which lead to more and more people surviving. At the end of 2023, there were 10,070 women alive who had been diagnosed with cancer, but unfortunately, cancer is still the leading cause of premature death in Iceland, and each year we lose an average of 306 women to the disease.“

Let's all be aware! Let's all be pink on Pink Day 2024!
