Wednesday, 17th May at 2 p.m. We welcome guests to the next event Perspectives, educational sessions for older people, at Hafnarborg. Then a museum specialist will talk about the exhibition. Written pictures, which features works by Jóhann Vilhjálmsson, as well as a discussion of text in visual art.

Jóhann Vilhjálmsson works on paper, using various inks and colours, but in recent years the works have increasingly come to resemble pages from beautifully described medieval manuscripts. The works can be said to combine illustrations, for example dragon motifs and columns of text, on a coloured background. On closer inspection, however, we see that what appears to be text is not in any known script, but rather the images are designed for us to read into them something that perhaps cannot be put into words – that we read with our imagination.

Perspective is a programme that began at Hafnarborg in spring 2022. The museum focuses on giving everyone the opportunity to experience culture and the arts, and offers guided tours for all age groups. The aim is to provide an insight into the activities of Hafnarborg, current exhibitions or unique works from the collection through monthly events during the winter season. Coffee and refreshments are offered after the programme.

Free admission – see you at Hafnarborg.
