Notice of planning – City of Hafnarfjörður
The Hafnarfjörður Town Council hereby announces a proposal for a new general plan for Hafnarfjörður 2025–2040, in accordance with section 31 of the Planning Act No. 123/2010.
The proposal shows the municipality's plans for land use, nature conservation and the development of the settlement. It sets out the council's main framework for how the town will develop in the coming years, covering areas such as housing, employment areas, transport, and the protection of nature and heritage. The main purpose of this proposal is to ensure that all stakeholders, including the public, have the opportunity to provide feedback and comments before the final proposal is approved.
In addition, a draft local plan for the Undirhlíðar quarry is being presented, and it is being presented alongside the proposal for the 2025–2040 general plan for Hafnarfjörður.a. to utilise the important consultation with the Road Administration, the Nature Conservation Agency, the National Heritage Institute of Iceland, HMS and the Public Health Authority. Upon the entry into force of this detailed plan, the detailed plan for Undirhlíðar, which was approved in 2006 with subsequent amendments, will lapse. In accordance with the risk assessment by the Icelandic Meteorological Institute, it is important to provide for the potential need for defence dikes.
During the consultation period, the proposal can be accessed on the planning portal at skipulag.is and hfj.is/skipulag under case numbers 1446/2025 and 535/2026.
Comments and/or suggestions should be submitted electronically via the Planning Portal of the Planning Authority by 19 June 2026., https://skipulagsgatt.is.
