The celebrations in Hafnarfjörður on Seafarers' Day, 2nd June, will take place at Flensborg Harbour. We encourage the residents of Hafnarfjörður and their guests to make their way down to the harbour, for which the town is named, and enjoy what it has to offer.

The Fisheries Research Institute's fish exhibition will, as usual, be at Háabakki. You will be able to see aof fish and invertebrates, from commercially important fish such as cod and haddock to rarer species. You can also take part in the Family Art Workshop, where children can draw, cut and colour their own adventure fish.. 

Hafnarfjörður Harbour offers sightseeing cruises every half an hour, and the Hafnarfjörður Rescue Squad will be setting up rescue equipment. Kayaks and rowing boats will be available from the Þyt sailing club, and entertainment will take place at Flensborg Harbour. There, strength athletes will compete. Iceland's strongest man will be crowned at the end of the day.

Designs and crafts by artists from Hafnarfjörður can be found in the cosy shops and art galleries by the harbour. Friendly restaurants and cosy cafés near the harbour will be open, renowned for their excellent food.

A new photographic exhibition by the Folk Museum has been installed on the Promenade, and in the Bungalow is the exhibition From Bookless to Bæjarútgerðar about the period of foreign fishing fleets in the town. In Siggubæ, you can see an example of a seaman's home in Hafnarfjörður from the first half of the 20th century.

Entertainment at Flensburg Harbour between 1 pm and 5 pm

  • Boat trip offered by the Port of Hafnarfjörður – departs every half an hour from Óseyrarbryggja.

  • Iceland's Strongest Man 2024! Strength athletes compete in spectacular feats of strength and against one another at the festival grounds by the harbour. Mixed Press at 13:00. Hand Over Hand at 14:00. Lorry Pull at 15:00. Tyre Flip at 16:00.
  • The Tuk Tuk vintage car of the Hafnarfjörður Folk Museum will be at the Óseyrarbrú with an exhibition of children's toys from the 1950s-1970s.
  • Coffee stall of the Björgúlfs youth section at Flensborg Harbour. The Hafnarfjörður Rescue Squad is setting up an obstacle course in the sea, a slide, a zip line and a pillow fight.
  • Open house at the Þyt Sailing Club. Kayaks and rowing boats available, and changing facilities for anyone who gets wet.
  • Open house on the first floor of the Institute of Marine Research, where children and families can let their imaginations run wild in the Family Art Workshop!

  • At 13:30, the Hafnarfjörður Brass Band marches through the festival grounds and plays by the stage.

    Begga and Mikka will no doubt be familiar to most who have followed Icelandic family programming in recent years, where they have made a good name for themselves. They have also presented Skrekks, hosted the quiz show Krakkakviss, and presented the Krakkaskaup.

Artists' open studios, shops and restaurants open

  • 13:00-17:00 Kænunnar's buffet is back, with sandwiches and the like, and seafood soup on offer from the house.
  • 13:00-17:00 Open house at the Hafnarfjörður Icehouse, Strandgata 90. The Hafnarfjörður Icehouse comprises 30 workshops and studios for sole traders and small businesses in the creative industries. The range is extremely diverse and the building is home to, among other things, ceramics design, fine art, product design, writing, shipbuilding and goldsmithing. The upper floor of the Icehouse will be open on Seamen's Day between 1 pm and 5 pm.
  • 13:00-17:00: ÆGIR220, bar and shop open during the festivities.
  • Open at Ramba, a shop with a curated selection of high-quality designer and homeware, at Fornubúðir 10.
  • Open at SIGN, Fornubúðir 12, where beautiful jewellery is designed and crafted.
  • Open house at SVART DESIGN STUDIO, Fornubúðir 12. Prints, drawings, paintings and more for sale.
  • Open house at Gára Handicrafts, Fornubúðir 8. Beautiful hand-modelled pottery by six female potters.

Hafnarfjörður Museum of Local History

  • Photographic exhibition on the Strand: A selection of the best! The best photographs from the collection, 1890-1980.
  • The Packhouse, 6 Vesturgata, open 11:00 – 17:00.
    There are three exhibitions on at the same time at the Packhouse. In the museum's forecourt is the themed exhibition. A Village Becomes a Town; Hafnarfjörður 1960–1975. The population growth during these years and its consequences are described: the development of new neighbourhoods, new employment opportunities, an increase in schools and improved sports facilities.
    As usual, there is a permanent exhibition on the history of the town from its settlement to the present day, and on the top floor there is a toy exhibition especially for children.
  • The Bookless Bungalow, 32 Vesturgata, is open from 11:00 to 17:00. A new and updated exhibition called From Bookless to municipal operations where an increased emphasis has been placed on the town's fishing industry. The exhibition also features the Bookless Brothers' gutting house and provides insight into the era of the foreign fishing fleets in Hafnarfjörður during the first half of the 20th century.
  • Siggubær, at 10 Kirkjuvegur, is open from 11:00 to 17:00. The house is preserved as an example of a fisherman's home in Hafnarfjörður from the first half of the 20th century. There you can experience and learn about how the town's ordinary people lived at that time.

Hafnarborg, Strandata 34, open from 12:00 17:00.

  • The exhibition At times and at untimely times is in the main hall of Hafnarborg.
    The exhibition focuses on the various manifestations of time in the works of three international contemporary women artists., Örnu Óttarsdóttur, Amy Brener and Leslie Roberts. Time is considered in a broad context, from philosophical reflections on its concept and nature, to the personal interpretation of the contemporary that characterises the works. The reflections on time are woven in different ways into the works and working methods of all three artists.
  • The solo exhibition is in Sverrisal. Cassioopeia on works Guðný Guðmundsdóttir.

Sailing facilities are at the Þyt Sailing Club, the Hafnarfjörður Icehouse, Kænan, at the oil jetty and the Institute of Marine Research.

Drone flights are prohibited in the festival area.

The harbour area will be closed to car traffic during the celebrations: From the Sailing Club at 88 Strandgata, Fornubúðir from Flensburg Square, and Óseyrarbryggja from Óseyrarbraut. Visitors are encouraged to park legally in nearby car parks or in the city centre and walk or take the bus.
