In my view: Shadow Theatre – a multilingual storytelling workshop
On Sunday 11 October from 1 pm to 3 pm, Hafnarborg and GETA are hosting a multilingual storytelling workshop where participants will create characters and tell…
Saturday, 5th April at 3 p.m. We warmly welcome you to the opening of the exhibition by Jóna Hlíf Halldórsdóttir, Universe. In the exhibition, Jóna Hlíf works with the interplay of text and images, exploring the creative power of language – how it connects us and enables us to express ourselves, as well as how meaning flows between cultures. In doing so, she tackles what it means to be human and how language shapes our understanding of the world, our ideas about our own self and reality.
Written language and visual representation merge, and the boundaries between the local and the universal become blurred, as the viewer is given the opportunity to contemplate the fragmentary nature of language and meaning, and the human impulse to express oneself. The exhibition also invites us to consider how language reflects the universe and our endeavour to understand it from our own perspective. Ultimately, Underneath focuses on the idea of „human existence“ and whether it can ever be separated from life in a broader context.
Jóna Hlíf Halldórsdóttir (b. 1978) graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Art School in Akureyri in 2005, completed an MFA from the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland in 2007, and an MA in Art Education from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2013. In recent years, Jóna Hlíf's art has focused on exploring the concepts of time, being and image in relation to the phenomena of light, space and presentation. Jóna Hlíf has also held solo exhibitions at various venues both at home and abroad, including BERG Contemporary and the Akureyri Art Museum. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions, and her works are held in the collections of several public institutions in Iceland.
The curator is Holmar Holm.
