„Welcome to „BETWEEN SLEEP AND WAKE“, where I invite you to explore the intriguing world of sleep paralysis. Here you will find paintings that reflect the strange state between being asleep and awake, where reality is blurred and dreams materialise.

Each work is my attempt to capture what it is like to experience sleep paralysis from personal experience. It is not always pleasant; themes such as isolation, fear and a lack of control often intertwine with the subject matter. From one painting to another, you will notice progression, or perhaps regression, into a kind of delirium where forms transform and shadows loom.

But amidst the chaos, there is a certain beauty – a rawness that comes from confronting the subconscious. The colours I have chosen might seem intense, almost overwhelming, but they are intended to draw you in, to make you feel the energy of the moment. This exhibition isn't just about looking at beautiful pictures; it's about diving into the depths of the mind, both mine and yours. It's about acknowledging the strange and sometimes unsettling aspects of our own consciousness.

So, take your time, wander around the gallery and see where the journey takes you. And who knows, perhaps you'll emerge on the other side with a new perspective on what it means to be awake, asleep, and somewhere in between.“

With a lifelong passion for creation and artistic expression, Thorgirímur is a multi-talented individual. His journey into the world of art began at a young age. With an artist for a father, Þorgrímur was raised in an environment full of artistic inspiration, surrounded by creativity and art.

This upbringing instilled a deep appreciation for the power of artistic expression as a means of communication and self-discovery. Having taken part in numerous drawing and art courses since childhood, his skills have been honed through many years of practice and exploration.

Thorgrim began his formal education in animation at Tumba Gymnasium in Stockholm, where he delved into the intricate world of visual storytelling. Although his formal education remains unfinished, the experience provided invaluable insight and techniques that continue to influence his work today.

Thorgrim draws inspiration from the richness of ancient civilisations and has immersed himself in the study of history, mythology and symbolism.
This fascination with the past informs his artwork, filling it with a meaning and depth that invites the viewer to explore beyond the surface.

In addition to his artistic practice, Þorgrímur is also a qualified yoga teacher and incorporates meditation into his creative process. This holistic approach not only enhances his artistic vision but also imbues his works with a sense of emotion and space for self-reflection.

With his diverse background and unique perspective, Thorghrímur continues to push the boundaries of artistic expression, offering viewers a journey of discovery and reflection with each piece.

„Welcome to ‘Between Sleep and Wake’, where I invite you to explore the curious world of sleep paralysis through my art. Here, you'll find paintings that reflect the strange state
between being asleep and awake, where reality blurs and dreams feel tangible.

Each piece is my attempt to capture what it's like to experience sleep paralysis firsthand. It's not always pleasant; themes of isolation, fear, and loss of control often weave through the imagery.
