Contemporary Vikings – Educational Walk | Healthy City of Hafnarfjörður
Jökull Tandri Ámundason, Dalverjagoði, leads a gentle walk from the Hafnarfjörður Library (Firði) around the town and not only teaches about the Vikings of the Commonwealth Age…
Life is a stage, clothes make the man, and you're never too old to play. Do you enjoy dressing up? In anything! Come and join in! We're going to indulge in everything fun about costumes, of every kind, from film costumes to LARP fantasy attire, to historical re-enactment, and Japanese cosplay, prop/weapon making, and buffering weapons, historical fencing, laser tag fencing… just everything!
Learn to make armour, forge a sword, create a costume in 5 minutes – or see people who spend years on their costume. Have a costume? Wear it! Sign up for a workshop! Take photos of yourself! The only thing that matters is taking part.
We embrace both worlds – both fantasy and outer space – but the Fantasy LARP will be setting up a Wayfarer Tavern on the third floor, and the 501st legion will take over the music department, so that people can walk right into Star Wars!
It's going to be amazing – outside, there'll be a Viking village. And battles, my word, everything from orcs to laser swords! Inside, there'll be workshops, demonstrations, lectures, people who can sew magnificent historical costumes, and everyone is here together to have a good time.
There will also be a Cosplay competition, with the head judge being the recent winner of the Cosplay Iceland competition, Jessica Chambers, who will be judging in three categories: junior, open, and advanced.
Registration and information will be available shortly.
Entry is, of course, free, and a detailed programme will be available shortly, along with information on registration for workshops and the fancy dress competition.
Open:
And of course, it goes without saying that everyone, yes, EVERYONE is encouraged to come in fancy dress!
The event is sponsored by the City of Hafnarfjörður and Nexus. Subject to change.
Please note: Due to the event, the car park at Hafnarfjörður Library will be partially closed from 5 p.m. on Thursday, 29th August until 10 a.m. on Monday, 2nd September. Thank you in advance for your understanding!
