A different and unique experience in a new place by the sea

The health town of Hafnarfjörður in collaboration with Yoga Sleep at St. Jó's Wellbeing Centre We invite everyone interested to a Yoga Nidra session – a restorative deep relaxation – on Wednesday, 13th December at 7:30 p.m. in the new Ægis 200 room at Strandgata 90. Admission is free, and both fans and those who have never tried Yoga Nidra before are especially encouraged to register, attend and enjoy.  You can report your attendance at the event itself or here.

Yoga Nidra is a guided deep relaxation.

Research shows that 45 minutes of Yoga Nidra is equivalent to 4 hours of sleep, and studies both in Iceland and abroad demonstrate the value of Nidra for those dealing with stress, tension, sleep difficulties, anxiety or depression. Practitioners lie on a mat in complete relaxation and are guided step-by-step by a Yoga Nidra teacher. The body sleeps, but the subconscious mind remains awake. The session lasts for approximately 50 minutes.

It is important to come well-dressed and with appropriate equipment.

It is important to come well-dressed and in comfortable clothes for this rejuvenating session, and to bring a blanket, a mat, a pillow for your head, and something to cover your eyes. This nourishing session will take place in Ægi 220, a new and raw event space that has just opened in a 70-year-old cod warehouse in the harbour area. It is therefore shaping up to be a different and unique experience by the sea.

Sigrún Jónsdóttir and Ólafur Sigvaldason, Yoga Nidra teachers at Svefn Yoga, lead the session. They have completed Yoga Nidra teacher training in beginner and advanced levels with Kamini Desai, I am Yoga Nidra, a teacher training in Pranyama Yoga breathing with Matsyendra, and the first level in sound healing with crystal bowls and gongs.

Part of enhancing residents' well-being

This initiative by the Healthy City of Hafnarfjörður is part of promoting the health of the residents of Hafnarfjörður and friends of the city, and aligns with the health strategy that the municipality formulated in 2016. One of the three overarching goals of the health strategy is to find ways and solutions to enhance the well-being of residents. Here, in collaboration with Svefn Yoga at the St. Jó.
