Extra bags for general rubbish
Major holidays usually generate a bit more rubbish than is typical for other months of the year. In December and into January (15th December – 15th January), the City of Hafnarfjörður plans to sell extra bags for general waste.
Major holidays usually generate a bit more rubbish than usual. In December and January (15th December – 15th January), the City of Hafnarfjörður plans to sell extra bags for general waste. These bags can be placed next to your rubbish bin and will be collected during the regular rubbish collection in the town during this period. The bags are made of biodegradable plastic and are specially marked for this project.
Orkutunna – extra eco-friendly bags
The extra bags are intended only for general household waste and will be collected at the next emptying of the grey bin. The grey bin is for general household waste such as food scraps, nappies and food-contaminated packaging, as well as metals. No recyclable paper or hazardous waste should be placed in this bin; in such cases, use the blue bin or take your waste to the nearest neighbourhood drop-off point or to SORPA. Each grey bin is emptied every 14 days and the green bin every 28 days. A refuse collection calendar for all areas of Hafnarfjörður and further information can be found on the Hafnarfjörður municipality website.
The bags can be purchased at the Hafnarfjörður Customer Service Centre at Strandgata 6 and at the Service Centre on Norðurhellu, in addition to which Ásvallalaug and Suðurbæjarlaug will have the bags for sale during their opening hours. The price per bag is kr. 549, which covers the cost of collection and disposal.
