First meeting of the town council in the new term of office
The first meeting of the Hafnarfjörður town council for the new term of office was held today, Wednesday 8 June, at Hafnarborg. A policy agreement for the town council majority was presented, and members were elected to the municipality's councils and committees. Valdimar Víðisson was elected chairman of the town council and Kristinn Andersen speaker of the town council. Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir will continue as mayor of Hafnarfjörður until 1 January 2025, as the parties will share the posts of mayor and chairman of the town council during the term.
The new term of office 2022-2026 has begun
The first meeting of the Hafnarfjörður town council for the new term of office was held today, Wednesday 8 June, at Hafnarborg. Valdimar Víðisson was elected chairman of the town council and Kristinn Andersen speaker of the town council. Proposals from the majority on priorities for the start of the new term were put forward, which are:
- Efficiency in the planning and construction sector
- Commercial activity in new-build areas
- The structure of the Pre-school day
- Housing for older people
- Hobby grants
- The rights of disabled people
- Music school and theatre
Mayor Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir looks forward to a continued majority partnership and to following up on the work of the last term. „We are united and committed to continuing to build in Hafnarfjörður with a focus on the community, people and businesses. We will prioritise efficiency, good planning and easy access to services, with the user in mind. Hafnarfjörður's vision has been shaped in close dialogue with residents, staff and other stakeholders. A clear coalition agreement is in place, and we will continue to chart the course and deliver. People will remain the top priority in Hafnarfjörður,“ says Rósa.
Valdimar Víðisson, chairman of the town council, agrees with Rósa. „The emphasis will be on continuing the vigorous work that has been carried out in recent years. This term in office will be characterised by a wide range of projects and developments, including the construction of housing and new neighbourhoods, the strengthening of the economy, improved welfare and quality of life for residents of all ages, and the development of vital infrastructure.“ says Valdimar.
