Gold medal for excellent achievement

Five received the gold badge of the Hafnarfjörður Badminton Club on Friday. All of them were in the club's table tennis section.

Valdimar Víðisson, the Mayor of Hafnarfjörður, had the honour of presenting the badge and sincerely congratulated them. He then watched the team's final training session before the Icelandic Championship finals, which took place at the weekend.

The BH Gold Badge is an honour awarded for well-performed work or for any achievement deemed worthy of honour at the time. The badge has been awarded to national champions in the top category since 2009. Previously, two female badminton achievers have received the gold medal, and now the first in table tennis. Coaches and board members from the club have also received the gold medal for their well-performed work.

  • Harriet Cardew. Became the Icelandic champion in women's doubles in the senior division in 2020.
  • Birgir Ívarsson. Won the men's senior doubles at the Icelandic Championships with Magnús Gauti Úlfarsson in February, as well as in 2020, 2021 and 2024. Four titles in total at the top level.
  • Sól Kristínardóttir Mixa. Won the singles in the senior category in 2024, the doubles in 2020 and 2024, and the mixed doubles at the Icelandic Championships this year and in 2020. Five titles in total at the top level.
  • Magnús Gauti Úlfarsson. He won the singles at the Icelandic Championships in 2018, 2019 and 2021, the mixed doubles in 2020 and 2025 with Sól, and the doubles in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2025 with Birgir. Nine titles in total at the top level.
  • Tómas Ingi Shelton. He has been a player for BH since the table tennis section was founded in 2009, and a coach since the autumn of 2012. He has done a great deal of voluntary work for the club and is tireless in offering extra training sessions and assistance.

The BH Table Tennis section holds training sessions at the Sports Hall on Strandgata for all age groups. The section and the club as a whole became Model Association in December 2024, and many of the country's best table tennis players train there. Information about training times and more can be found here.

A heartfelt congratulations to everyone on your achievements and the badge.
