Balance of Power Recognition for the fourth year in a row
The Municipality of Hafnarfjörður received the Jafnvægi Vogarinnar – Hreyfiafl FKA award last week. The municipality has now received the award for the second time in a row.
The town receives recognition from the Balance Scale
Hafnarfjörður is among sixteen municipalities to receive recognition from Jafnvægisvogin, FKA's driving force, this year. This is the fourth year in a row that Hafnarfjörður has received the recognition.
„We in Hafnarfjörður believe that equality does not happen by itself; it is a conscious decision that requires responsibility and solidarity. All of us who work for the Municipality of Hafnarfjörður have played our part. With such solidarity, we see results, results we can be proud of,“ says Valdimar Víðisson, the Mayor.
FKA – the Association of Women in Business held its annual awards ceremony last week. The first one was held in 2019. In total, 128 people received an award this year. All of them have achieved the project's goal of an equal gender balance on the board of directors or in the top management.
Ásta Dís Óladóttir, a professor at the University of Iceland and chair of Jafnvægisvogin, praised the management for their remarkable success. Gunnar Gunnarsson, Director of Analysis and Consulting at Creditinfo, also delivered a speech entitled „Isn't this enough?“, and the Minister for Justice, Þorbjörg S. Gunnlaugsdóttir, gave a motivational address.
The Ministry of Justice, Creditinfo, Deloitte, Pipar\TBWA, the National Broadcasting Service, the Association of Marine Industries and Sjóvá are partnering with FKA on this momentum project.
The aim is to increase gender balance in the top management of companies, institutions and local authorities in Iceland; the proportions in the executive board/top management should be at least 40/60.

The Balanced Scorecard awarded recognition to 90 companies, 22 public bodies and 16 local authorities from among the 253 participants who have signed the declaration of intent.
Congratulations, 2025 award recipients! We are proud to be among you.
