A pastime for children from Hafnarfjörður
Preparations are in the final stages for a fun-filled summer at Tómstund. Up to 120 children can take part in these various workshops. Full and half days are available, for one or more weeks. It's always been popular, but there's still a chance to get your child a place. Tómstund is for children in Years 4-7, born between 2012 and 2015.
Leisure 2025
- 11th-13th June. Games and Adventure Week
- 16th-20th June. Experiment Week (Science and Cooking)
- 23-27 June. Week of movement and creativity
- 30 June – 1 July. Youth Club Week
The main aim of Tómstund is to keep children active during the summer holidays and give them the opportunity to meet other children of a similar age and explore interesting activities. This time, Tómstund will be held at Skarðshlíðar- and Öldutúnsskóli.
As seen above, the leisure time is divided into four terms. Each term lasts for one week. At the start of each term, the children choose which courses they want to attend. The courses run from Monday to Thursday. The week then ends with a fun and unexpected Friday event.
Tómstund is for students in Hafnarfjörður who have just finished years 4-7. There is no age grouping in Tómstund, and everyone who is registered can attend both before and after lunch, or just as suits them.
Leisure Centre Opening Hours
- Morning session 8 am - 12 pm. Course starts at 9 am.
- Afternoons 13-16. Courses start at 13:00.
At both locations, there is a facility for the children to heat up and eat their packed lunches between 12 pm and 1 pm.
Attendance at the courses is not compulsory, but we encourage the children to stay from start to finish. If the children are not interested in taking part in the courses on offer, they are free to come and join in with games or other activities available at both venues (pool, table tennis, card games and more). Attendance at Tómstund is voluntary. The children can therefore come and go as they please.
Yes, now it's time to enjoy spending time with friends while the grown-ups work.
