Garden waste collected

Garden waste will be collected from residents' homes from 6th to 12th May. Collection will take place as follows: for the northern and western districts, Hraun and the town centre on 6th May; for Setberg, Kinnur and Hvammur on 13th May; and for Ásland, Völlur and Holt on 20th May. Let's take the opportunity to have a good clear-out at home! 

From 11 April to 20 May, clean-up days are taking place in Hafnarfjörður under the heading Let's clean up Hafnarfjörður . Residents in all neighbourhoods of Hafnarfjörður are encouraged to take an active part in the clean-up, and it is an ideal opportunity during the clean-up days to get to work in the garden, pruning bushes and flowerbeds. Special attention is drawn to the fact that Landowners are required to keep the growth of trees and shrubs on the plot within the boundaries of the plot.. Tree growth can create inconvenience and even danger for pedestrians and motorists. Plot owners are also advised to Certain rules apply to the construction of a screen wall and fencing within the plot. which is worth looking into before you set off. 

Garden waste collected!

Town officials will be out and about in the town on the days 6th – 20th May. Garden waste in the North Town, West Town,hraun and the town centre will be collected from home on 6 May, in Setberg, Kinn and Hvammar on 13 May, and in Ásland, Vallar and Holti on 20 May.

Residents of Hafnarfjörður are asked to place garden waste at the kerbside at the end of the designated collection days for each neighbourhood. Please note that all garden waste must be in bags, and bear in mind that reasonably weighted bags make the collection process easier for our staff. Residents are encouraged to make use of this service provided by the council.

Once the spring clean is over, owners and plot holders must take their garden waste to Sörpu themselves – information on opening hours can be found on the Sörpu website: www.sorpa.is It is also ideal to collect garden waste over the summer in a compost heap in a convenient place in the garden and use it for composting.
