A clean Hafnarfjörður… with everyone's participation!

Spring sweeping of streets and pavements is taking place in Hafnarfjörður at the moment and will continue until the end of the month. The town is divided into 14 districts, and these are signposted the day before sweeping with a notice of the planned work. As with last year, the City of Hafnarfjörður is encouraging a community clean-up initiative, urging all residents, students, and staff of local businesses and institutions to take an active part. With a concerted community clean-up effort, where everyone thinks about their local area, Hafnarfjörður will be clean and tidy in no time for the summer.

Spring Clean-up – garden waste collection. Dates for each neighbourhood.

An annual clean-up campaign in Hafnarfjörður will take place from 2nd to 11th May. During these days, council staff will be busy with clean-up operations across Hafnarfjörður, and residents are also urged to take an active part by cleaning up their own properties and immediate surroundings. Garden waste in Norðurbær, Vesturbær, Hraun and the town centre will be collected on Tuesday, 2nd May; in Setberg, Kinnur and Hvammur on Thursday, 4th May; and in Ásland, Vellir and Holt on Wednesday, 11th May.  Residents in these areas are encouraged to have their garden waste ready and placed outside their property boundaries for the designated collection days for each neighbourhood. Please note that all garden waste must be in bags, and bear in mind that reasonably weighted bags make the work easier for our staff. Residents are encouraged to make use of this municipal service.  After these dates, owners and landowners will need to take garden waste to the tip themselves. It is also ideal to collect garden waste over the summer in a compost heap in a convenient spot in the garden and use it for composting.
