Grants from the Fund of Fridrik and Gudlaug

The Board of the Friðrik Bjarnason and Guðlaug Pétursdóttir Fund is inviting applications for grants. The purpose of the fund is to promote the musical life of Hafnarfjörður and to support students from Hafnarfjörður for postgraduate study in music, and music scholars.

The application deadline is 1 November 2020. Applications are made on My pages on hafnarfjordur.is.The applicant shall provide a detailed description of their studies or proposed project. 

In a will from 1960, the couple Friðrik Bjarnason and Guðlaug Pétursdóttir bequeathed a large part of their assets to the City of Hafnarfjörður and stipulated that books and items should be preserved in the library and that a fund should be established to „to promote musical life in Hafnarfjörður in whatever way is considered best at the time, with particular emphasis on promoting choral singing in the town“, and „to support students of music and music scholars“. The awards are presented on Fridrik's birthday, 27 November, which marks 140 years since his birth.
