Health-promoting school work at Hraunvallaskóli

Hraunvallaskóli shone at a workshop held in Braga, Portugal, earlier this month, so much so that now 100 schools in Slovakia want a presentation on the implementation of the growth mindset that the project managers have led at the school.

Sigurlaug Rúna Guðmundsdóttir, team leader of the health-promoting school at Hraunvallar school, and Björg Kristín Ragnarsdóttir and Guðbjörg Pálsdóttir, project managers for the implementation of growth mindset at Hraunvallar school, were the school's representatives at the workshop.

The school is participating in a 3-year European project funded by ERASMUS+ and SHE4AHA (Sustainable Healthy Environments for Active and Healthy AgeingThe aim of the project is to promote a healthy and sustainable environment that supports active and healthy ageing.

Present the school's project

The trip began with a school presentation at two primary schools and one nursery school. Then the university in Braga was visited. „It was lovely to see how prepared the students were for the visit; they danced, sang and played musical instruments for us,“ says Sigurlaug Rúna.

„These schools then presented their approaches to health-promoting schools to us, the visitors, who had come from Iceland, Denmark, Slovenia and France. On the second day, a workshop was held where each country presented its project.“

Our representatives presented their project, which is the implementation of a growth mindset along with other initiatives at Hraunvallaskóli, such as a pledge run for the upper school in the Olympic Run, Color Run, mountain hikes, walking to school and the golden boot, a healthy diet, mindfulness and a phone-free school, to name but a few.

An enlightening journey of connection

„This was an educational trip for our representatives and strong friendships were formed between the countries. In February 2025, the project will then conclude with a conference in Brussels, where the results from the project will be reviewed.“

Yes, we are proud of our people at Hraunvallaskóli.
