Hafnarfjörður Harbour 110 years old
At the beginning of 2019, exactly 110 years had passed since the first harbour regulation for the Port of Hafnarfjörður came into force, on 1 January 1909. That regulation authorised the levying of a fee on all ships larger than 8 gross tons that anchored or moored within a line drawn from Balaklett to Hvaleyrarhöfði.

The construction of a seaport dock began in the same year, and dock construction commenced in the spring of 1912. The country's first proper seaport dock was

The harbour board has also approved the start of preparations for the reconstruction of the North Quay, in parallel with the completion of the Strand at the North Bank. precisely on the site where the first harbour ship quay was originally built.
