Hafnarfjörður harbour deepened

Dredging works are currently underway at the harbour of Hafnarfjörður in front of the West Quay on Strandgata, where a new small boat harbour, Hamarshöfn, will be completed in the next two years. This can be read on the website of Hafnarfjörður Harbour.

The company Sjótækni is undertaking the dredging. It is estimated that around 30,000 cubic metres of sediment will be removed from this new harbour area. A clay or glacial silt layer lies on the seabed, and no explosions are planned.

The excavation is located in an area south of Helgasker. The work is expected to take around 2 months and be completed by the end of April.

Hammers Harbour is part of a new development at Flensburg Harbour. The small boat harbour at Flensburg was built around 1980 and is long since full, with space for just over 80 boats.  The new Hamarshöfnin will accommodate around 60 boats at moored pontoons, and in addition, there will be a berth alongside the harbour wall outside the pontoons.

The new harbour is primarily intended for yachts and pleasure boats, while the old Flensburg Harbour will be for smaller fishing boats.
