A good family for our children

Hafnarfjörður's Child Protection Service is looking for a good family who is ready to take in children who need to be accommodated away from home for a short time.

The role of the foster parent is to provide a welcome for children, including in emergency situations, to ensure their safety while in care. When a child or children are in the home, the emphasis is on them attending their home school, attending their leisure activities and maintaining friendships. Preference is therefore given to families living in Hafnarfjörður.

During a home assessment, information is obtained from the criminal record, a certificate from the health authority, and a fire safety report, as well as a reference from the relevant local authority's child protection service. In accordance with section 84 of the Child Protection Act, child protection services must enter into agreements with foster carers in a private home. It is important that one member of the family is dedicated solely to this role and that there is at least one spare room in the property which is always ready for a child or children.

The role is varied and rewarding, and involves working in close collaboration with child protection staff. Experience of working with children and an education relevant to the role are highly valued.

  • The application deadline is 4 July 2025.
