On 21 January, the Hafnarfjörður Youth Club Singing Competition was held. This annual competition is a qualifying round for the Samfés Singing Competition, which will be held in the Laugardalshöll on Saturday, 14 March.
The competition took place at Víðistaðaskóli in the youth club Hrauni, where it has been held in recent years. A total of 14 acts took part, two acts from each youth club, which had been selected in preliminary competitions held by the clubs earlier this winter.
The judges were actress Björk Jakobsdóttir, musician Ingvar Jónsson, singer Rebekka Sif Stefánsdóttir and actress Ólöf Hugrún Valdimarsdóttir. The two acts chosen as winners and thus representatives of Hafnarfjörður's youth clubs at Samfés were Telma Kolbrún Elmarsdóttir, vocals, and Inga Steinunn Henningsdóttir on piano. They come from the youth club Ásnum and performed the song Hallelujah.
Then there was Eyþór Eysteinsson from Mosinn, who performed the song Svartur Afgan. In second place was Sara Renee Griffin from the youth club Hraunið, and in third place were Márus Björgvin Gunnarsson and Fanný Lísa Hevesi from the youth club Vitanum. The presenters for the evening were Sindri Blær Gunnarsson and Viktor Pétur Finnsson.
Judges and spectators alike were all in agreement that the competition was exceptionally tough this year, as there are incredibly talented youngsters in Hafnarfjörður who receive great support from their clubs and families. This was clearly evident yesterday, as the venue was packed to the rafters and the atmosphere was electric.
Congratulations to all the competitors – you were brilliant.
