News

The Hafnarfjörður Town Council confirmed at its meeting yesterday the decision of the education board to take over the running of the Hamravallar nursery school, thereby ensuring its continued operation and unchanged priorities.

At its meeting yesterday, the Hafnarfjörður Town Council confirmed the decision of the education board to take over the running of the Hamravallar nursery school, thereby ensuring its continued operation and unchanged priorities. Hamravellir, located at Hvannavellir 1, opened in June 2008 and has been run by Skólar ehf. since its inception.

From the next school year, 2020-2021, the Hamravellir Health Nursery School will be added to the nursery school portfolio of the City of Hafnarfjörður, bringing the total number of nursery schools run by the municipality to 17. Skólar ehf., which has managed the nursery's operations for the past twelve years, recently handed in notice of their service contract. The reason is changed operating conditions, fewer children, and a desire to focus on developing the work in other schools that Skólar ehf. operates.

Emphasis on nutrition, exercise and artistic creation through play.

In the nursery school's work at Hamravellir, health promotion is the guiding principle in everything we do, and a strong emphasis is placed on nutrition, physical activity and artistic creativity through play. The nursery, like a growing number of nurseries in Hafnarfjörður, is a health-promoting nursery and an active participant in the Directorate of Health's collaborative project on health-promoting schools. The City of Hafnarfjörður entered into an agreement with the Office of the Chief Medical Officer in March 2015 to participate in the Healthy Community project, and the municipality, in collaboration with residents, staff and other stakeholders have developed the health policy of Hafnarfjörður and work according to an ambitious action plan each year. The municipality welcomes a new nursery with a creative curriculum that fits well with Hafnarfjörður's health-promoting philosophy.

Thanks to Skóla Ltd. for a professional and great collaboration.

The Education Committee and the City Council of Hafnarfjörður, on behalf of all those who have benefited from the professional service of the staff and management of Hamravallar, thank Skólar ehf. for the good cooperation and wish the company every success in its future endeavours.
