It was a real treat for the whole family in glorious weather at a splendid festival in Hellisgerði yesterday, Sunday, 25th August. There you could hear the story of the book elf's exciting adventure, roast marshmallows, try your hand at the circus, make giant soap bubbles, joust, dance and sing along to the lively tunes with Benedikt the Book Elf, Mæju Jarðaber, the Sports Elf, and Kjalar, to name but a few. All around the garden, people of all ages could be seen in costumes, with elf ears and flowers in their hair. A rough count of the guests came to 3,000 people. It is safe to say, therefore, that the atmosphere and joy were all-pervading in Hellisgerði yesterday. Children and quirky characters enjoyed climbing the lava field, taking in the surroundings and spending time with family and friends in the beautiful garden.

A playground for people of all ages.

Hellisgerði is a lava-field-adorned park in the heart of Hafnarfjörður, from which the residents of Hafnarfjörður and friends of the town have fond memories and stories over the past few decades. From the outset, the park has served an important social role as a green space, a place for gathering, and a venue for experiences and play for people of all ages. In recent years, Hellisgerði has established itself as a world of light and wonder during Advent, and thousands of visitors have made their way to the park in the run-up to Christmas, along with visiting the ever-popular Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður.
