Positivity and energy at the Happiness Days in Hafnarfjörður

Happiness Days were held in Hafnarfjörður for the first time in autumn 2023, on the occasion of European Sports Week, which is held annually from 23rd to 30th September. The idea for special Happiness Days in Hafnarfjörður was conceived by the steering group of the Healthy Town of Hafnarfjörður, partly based on certain indications that the country's happiness index was declining. A healthy lifestyle and a positive attitude contribute to better mental and physical well-being and increase people's happiness. It was decided to launch a varied programme for these first Happiness Days, focusing on education, encouragement, positivity, energy, experience and, above all, happiness. Attendance at the events broke all records, and so the event was relaunched for autumn 2024. There is a desire to continue the happiness journey, which clearly goes down well with the people of Hafnarfjörður and friends of the town.

International Happiness Day is on 20 March.

International Happiness Day is on 20 March each year. The day was first observed at the initiative of the United Nations in 2013 with the aim of raising awareness of happiness and well-being as an important objective for individuals and governments around the world. The United Nations General Assembly has urged member states to develop ways to place greater emphasis on happiness and well-being in public policymaking and to approach economic growth in a manner that promotes sustainable development, combat poverty and increase the well-being of all citizens.
