The Festival of Hamarskot Stream for the tenth time

News Christmas Town

The Hamarskot Stream Festival will be held for the tenth time at Hafnarborg on 14 December at 3 p.m. There will be great entertainment, a lecture and a film screening.

A festival in memory of a great pioneer

„We are holding the Hamarskotslæk Festival for the tenth time,“ says Steinunn Guðnadóttir, one of the two organisers of the cultural festival held in memory of the pioneer Jóhannes J. Reykdal.

„He built the first power station to generate electricity for the town single-handedly in 1904. The town of Hafnarfjörður then bought it in 1909,“ says Steinunn.

„Jóhannes was born in 1874, so 150 years have passed since his birth. It has also been 120 years since this first public electricity company was established. That was the year he got married as well,“ says Steinunn, who saw signs of Jóhannes's activities all over the town as a child.

„I grew up by the Creek and his businesses were right there in front of me as I was growing up,“ says Steinunn, who is keeping his memory alive alongside Halldór Árni Sveinsson. For around 40 years, Halldór has been filming in the town of Hafnarfjörður.

10-kilometre Kaldár Run

The Kaldár Run, a 10 km run in memory of Jóhannes J. Reykdal, will be held on Sunday, 15th December. The run starts from Kaldársel.

„Then the run finishes at the finish line on Strandgatan. Grýla presents the first prizes for men and women, and then ten prize draws,“ says Steinunn. The run is in collaboration with the FH Running Group, and is sponsored by Hópbílar, Fjarðarfréttir and the City of Hafnarfjörður.
