Paralympic Day is a big and fun promotional day for the sports practised by disabled people in Iceland. This is the fifth year in a row that the Sports Federation for the Disabled has organised Paralympic Day. Sports journalist Haukur Harðarson will host the day, which takes place on Saturday, 19th October at the Laugardalur Athletics Hall from 13:00 to 16:00. Everyone welcome!
Introduction to wheelchair rugby, boccia, football, archery, gymnastics and more
The Paralympics are the largest disability sports event and take place every four years, shortly after the Olympic Games themselves, but cities that host the Olympic Games also bid for the Paralympics as the two massive sporting events run concurrently and feature the world's top athletes.
Member clubs of the IF, the federation's committees and individuals will be presenting their activities on the day, and there will be a wide variety on offer. For example, there will be demonstrations of handcycling, boccia, football for the disabled, gymnastics, athletics, archery, and the list goes on. The day is open to everyone and refreshments will be available while stocks last. Passers-by can also challenge „The Sports Hawk“ in various disability sports.
We encourage the people of Hafnarfjörður and friends of Hafnarfjörður to come to Laugardalshöll!
