Hello Hafnarfjörður – a gift for newborn residents of Hafnarfjörður

35 babies have been born in Hafnarfjörður since the New Year.

From 1 January 2022, newborn residents of Hafnarfjörður will receive a symbolic and beautiful gift from their town, or a so-called „cute basket“. The gift is part of an initiative to further establish Hafnarfjörður as a family-friendly community and to welcome newborn residents to the world in a formal and memorable way. 35 new residents of Hafnarfjörður have been born since the turn of the year, and it was deemed appropriate that the first resident of the year and the newborn daughter of the 2021 Artist in Residence of Hafnarfjörður should receive the first gifts. Mayor Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir and Valdimar Víðisson, chairman of the Family Council, visited the families and presented them with a gift, flowers and cakes, along with heartfelt congratulations from the City of Hafnarfjörður. Parents of other January babies will receive a message about the gift in the coming days.

Parents of newborns in Hafnarfjörður receive a postcard from the town inviting them to collect a gift from the children's section of the Hafnarfjörður Library. The children's department was considered the perfect place for the handover, as the library offers a pleasant environment for reading, learning, relaxation, chatting and socialising for new parents. The postcard also features a QR code that leads parents to a page on the town's website with information in both Icelandic and English about the services and opportunities available to children and families in Hafnarfjörður. Information on walking routes, playgrounds, interesting places in Hafnarfjörður, day-care providers, nurseries, events and other useful information.
